  • Is it possible to deceive a lie detector?

It is impossible to deceive / mislead / outwit / confuse / the polygraph. The same as impossible to do such things with a laptop or monitor, because – this is a technique that performs clear prescribed algorithms.

The polygraph is a complex and very sensitive instrument. Modern polygraphs record up to nine reflexively altered psychophysiological parameters, ensuring high accuracy of the results.

Lie detector’s mistakes are not mistakes of the device, but polygraph examiner’s. Insufficient qualification, that’s what can actually lead to incorrect results.

Medicines, “folk remedies,” or even specially trained people cannot deceive experienced specialists.

We know all the methods / tools / approaches / tips on counteraction of polygraph tests, contained in the Internet and other sources: inflicting pain, lack of sleep, ten cups of coffee / tea, sedative, abstracting from reality, meditation – for each of these ways there are appropriate detection methods.

If the polygraph examiner identifies the counteraction, he indicates it in the conclusion, and the client makes decision about the person who did it.

Please do not counteract, do not complicate your life, counteraction will be found, and then you will need to seek excuses.

  • What is the reliability of the results of the polygraph test?

There are no results with a confidence percentage of 99.9% – this is just an advertising move by some polygraph examiners who want to receive an order at any cost.

The real, honest percentage of the reliability of the result is from 85% to 97%.

In each individual case, the polygraph examines the situation of the customer in detail and creates an individual test system without using obsolete templates.

Every day, the experience of more than 200 members of the VAP allows us to improve the methodology for conducting research and to be the market leader in the detection of lies in Ukraine.

  • Is the polygraph harmful to health?

The lie detector is absolutely safe!

Speaking of some harm to health, in most cases it is an exacerbation of chronic diseases.

Indeed, there are a number of diseases which are contraindicated for testing on a polygraph: these are severe cardiovascular pathologies and psychosomatic disorders.

That is why any check on the lie detector involves a preliminary conversation, during which the disputable points are necessarily clarified.

  • Can an "emotional" person be wrongly accused?

The lie detector examines memory and fixes psychophysiological reactions when presenting appropriate stimuli.

The “emotionality” of the researcher, the type of his nervous system, does not affect the result at all, because even a very emotional person will not find a reaction indicative of deceit if in the memory of this researcher there are no traces of the requested event.

The general background of the truthful answers of the emotional person can be high, but qualitatively in his reactions there will be no informative signs indicative of an attempt to hide or distort the information reported during the polygraph test.

  • What questions can be taken for the study?

For the study using a polygraph, only questions regarding specific actions / events in the past are left that are preserved in the person’s memory.

It is inappropriate to put on the study questions of feelings, beliefs, attachments, predictions and other subjective judgments. These issues are of an evaluation nature and cannot be investigated with a high degree of certainty.

We will give you answers to the questions:

    1. Did he/she steal the money from the safe?
    2. Does he/she know where the stolen items are?
    3. Did he/she take part in the crime (fraud, beating, murder, rape)?
    4. Did he/she give confidential information to third parties?
    5. Did he/she have sexual relations with other people during the marriage?
    6. Did he/she receive kickbacks from suppliers?
    7. Did he/she collect compromising information about the owner or company?

We will NOT give answers to the questions:

    1. Does he/she love me?
    2. Will he/she continue to behave decently?
    3. Will he/she organize a fraudulent scheme in the future?
  • Does the polygraph cause pain?

Polygraph examiners of VAP do not use polygraphs that cause pain.

The majority of American-made polygraphs, due to the tight cuff that measures blood pressure, create severe discomfort, and during prolonged studies cause pain.

We use polygraphs that are powered by a USB input (5 volts – the possibility of electric shock is excluded) and does not include sensors that cause discomfort and / or pain.

  • What are the limitations of a polygraph study?

Minors under the age of 14 years. Persons between the ages of 14 and 16 can be interviewed for cases of particularly serious crimes in the presence of parents or other guardians.

Can NOT to be investigated using a polygraph:

Persons with severe physical or psychological exhaustion.

Persons with mental illness or disorders.

Persons with diseases of the cardiovascular or respiratory system.

Persons who are in a state of alcoholic or narcotic intoxication.

    Pregnant.

Workers of special services (only with the written consent of the management).

  • What documents should have the person who is undergoing the research?

A person who undergoes a polygraph examination must have a passport or other document with a photo identifying his identity.

In addition, everyone who is undergoing the research must fill in and personally sign a voluntary written consent.

  • Is the presence of third parties possible during the research?

Carrying out a polygraph study is recommended only with the presence of a polygraph examiner and an examined person with obligatory video fixing, provided that the respondent is of age and speaks the language, which the test will be conducted.

The presence of third parties is not strictly prohibited, but it negatively affects the reliability of the result.

At the request of the customer, he/she will be given the opportunity to watch the online check.

  • Is it possible to conduct research on the customer's premises?

Conducting research on the customer’s premises is possible if the is a quiet room, the walls should be pastel shades while maintaining room temperature.

Also, you need a table, 2 chairs and an electric outlet.

Optimal area from 12 to 20 square meters.

VAP has offices in all major cities of Ukraine, including several offices in Kiev, which makes it possible to conduct research at the same time throughout the territory of Ukraine without additional costs for customers.

  • How long does the study last and when will I receive the report?

The duration of the main part of the study (namely the test) averages from 60 to 150 minutes.

At this stage a person monosyllables answers the questions of a polygraph examiner and, if it necessary, gives his explanations.

In addition, it is necessary to remember the stage of preparation for research and analysis, which, depending on the complexity, vary in time from one to several hours.

In any case, the conclusion on the results of the study you will receive within 1 working day after the test.

  • Is it possible to investigate the events that took place many years ago?

    It’s possible.

All facts and knowledge that are reflected in the long-term memory of a person are subject to investigation.

Be sure that the person has remembered that he:

    • Participated in the crime;
    • Cheated;
    • Worked for competitors;
    • Received “kickbacks” and / or “left earnings”;
    • Committed fraudulent activities.
  • How many questions can be taken for one study?

In order to achieve the most reliable result, we recommend to take for one study no more than five questions. A greater number of questions simply significantly reduces the percentage of reliability of the result.

Under the main five questions, the polygraph examiner develops an individual test system that contains 100 to 200 questions. About 35-50 questions in the test we need to clarify one question.

The test lasts from 1 to 2 hours, during this time more than 200 questions can not be asked. The test duration of more than 2 hours is not allowed, because a person is tired, adaptation leads to the lack of informative reactions.

In order to get an answer to one customer’s question, the polygraph examiner is obliged to use a whole set of methodological methods to achieve the most reliable result. An exception can be screening (personnel) checks, during which there may be more than five questions, but not more than 8-10.

In each individual case, a polygraph examiner after studying your situation will offer you the optimal number of questions with the most correct formulations.

  • How to suggest to pass the polygraph test correctly?

First of all you should remembered that a polygraph study should be conducted only after obtaining written consent.

We advise you to offer a polygraph test, as an opportunity for a person to refute all suspicions and confirm the correctness of their statements. In any case, before the check, a person cannot be accused.

Discussion of a possible verification is carried out calmly and rationally, but it is worth to recalling the benefits of passing the test.

If you do not know how to offer polygraph study, the specialists of the All-Ukrainian Association of Polygraphists are always happy to help you!

  • Can a person prepare for a test and cheat a polygraph if he/she will be warned about the test?

“To prepare” will be able, but to deceive – NO!

In any case, it is necessary to warn the person about the research.

Preparation for verification is impossible! Of course, in the global network you will find many ways “how to deceive” the lie detector, but in practice it only helps experienced polygraph examiner.

Before the test, person can use a considerable amount of countermeasures, but we constantly meet all these means in everyday practice.
